WHO WE ARE

BIOTOP: Creating natural wine experiences

At BIOTOP, since 2013, we’ve held the deep conviction that organic, natural, living wines are the wines of the future. BIOTOP is much more than a trade show, it is a living ecosystem, a place for enthusiasts to come together, a manifesto for winemaking that is mindful of both humans and the living world.

Our events bring together the best winemakers committed to organic farming and agroecology with wine professionals from around the world – wine merchants, sommeliers, restaurateurs, importers – who are keen to develop their wine lists around expressive, ethical, meaningful wines, crafted by hand.

The 3 symbols in our logo represent 3 key points:

A bottle, to show our link with the winemakers we represent

A glass, to demonstrate our quality service to wine professionals

A moon, to illustrate our commitment to ecology and natural viticulture

Our deeply-rooted values:

1. Promoting agroecological viticulture

Agroecology is much more than a growing method, it’s an agricultural philosophy, a strong commitment to nature, biodiversity and terroir. We believe in ethical, regenerative and resilient viticulture, centred on practices such as biodynamic farming, agroforestry, agropastoralism and the use of cover crops.

Each winemaker selected by BIOTOP strives to preserve our biotopes, the complex and precious ecosystems that make up the wealth of our terroirs. By choosing BIOTOP, you are supporting living agriculture that champions natural cycles and future generations.

2. Sharing the best of organic, biodynamic and natural wine throughout France

We believe that major wine trade events should not be confined to Paris or Montpellier, so we’ve launched the BIOTOP TOUR: a tour of wine fairs held in France’s most beautiful cities (Toulouse, Strasbourg, Lyon, Nice and more). Our aim: to make organic wine accessible to all professionals, in their own region.n.

We present the very best in organic wine: wines produced according to agroecological practices, with few or no additions, which express their terroir with sincerity. Each stage of the BIOTOP TOUR is an invitation to discover characterful wines made with love, patience and exacting standards.

3. Making connections through mutual support, sharing and togetherness

BIOTOP is a place where people come together. Our wine fairs are designed to encourage conversations between winemakers and professionals, in a friendly, positive atmosphere.

We also organise tastings and conferences on biodynamics, living soils and energy issues to stimulate discussion, inspire practices and help the whole sector move forward. At BIOTOP, learning, sharing, and discovering new things is central to our identity.

Our commitments to winemakers and visitors

For wine professionals (importers, wine merchants, salespeople, restaurateurs, sommeliers):

  • smooth, enjoyable tasting experience with plenty of added value: quality glassware, clear signage, attentive staff, easy access (central, characterful locations, shuttle transport).
  • careful and exclusive selection of committed winemakers, whose wines have been tasted and approved by our committee.
  • Events designed to save you time and add meaning to your wine list.

For winemakers:

  • Increased professional visibility in carefully-chosen venues steeped in history and identity.
  • community of independent winemakers who share the same values of transparency, mutual support and sustainable growing.
  • Personalised support with promotion and communication surrounding the fairs.

Our selection process: exacting standards to ensure authenticity

At BIOTOP, we choose wines and winemakers, not labels.

All the estates present are:

  • AB certified (as a minimum) and committed to agroecological, biodynamic or natural practices
  • Grower-winemakers who are closely attuned to their vines and their soil
  • Producers of natural wines without artificial additives, with few or no sulphites, and vinified with indigenous yeasts
  • Creators of hand-crafted wines that reflect the terroir and a clear identity
  • People who are open-minded, committed and keen to share their passion

Our team (wine merchants, journalists, sommeliers, wine professionals) tastes the samples sent in advance. Each wine is selected for its sincere expression, its taste and the ecological principles behind it. We visit the selected estates wherever possible.

An unforgettable visitor experience

We are committed to ensuring that each fair is inspiring and impactful for wine professionals.

Our truly special locations have been chosen to further enhance the experience. A few examples include:

  • The Grands Chais in Montpellier: a stunning site steeped in viticultural history
  • The Bastille Design Center in Paris: a pared-back, elegant space with industrial charm
  • The Pavillon Joséphine in Strasbourg: a haven of greenery and heritage at the heart of the Parc de l’Orangerie

Each visit is designed to promote interaction and new discoveries, in an atmosphere that’s warm and relaxed, yet efficient, with professionals in mind.

BIOTOP: protecting our biotopes

Why “BIOTOP”? Because, like in ecology, we believe in a harmonious balance between the elements. A biotope is a stable ecosystem in which flora, fauna and micro-organisms live together in symbiosis.

Our ambition is to make every wine fair a living ecosystem, teeming with diversity, interaction and collective energy. Preserving our soil, our biodiversity and our terroirs is our central commitment, through the promotion of clean and sustainable farming practices.

In a nutshell, BIOTOP is:

  • Natural, organic and biodynamic wine that is sincere and alive
  • Viticulture guided by agroecology
  • Wines hand-crafted by passionate growers
  • Togetherness, human connection and enjoyment

Join us in this collective adventure, savour its meaning, share the passion, and take part in the ecological transition of the wine world.
